MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Our local New England Chapter holds many events during the year for member teachers and their students including workshops, conventions, scholarship auditions, performing arts competitions and more!  More than $100,000.00 in cash scholarships is awarded annually through the local and national organizations. By joining the local chapter, members automatically become a member of Dance Masters of America National Organization.

EDUCATION

  • Teachers Training School - Continuing education for new and experienced teachers.
  • S.H.I.P. - Student Honors Intensive Program - a week long program for the serious dance student.
  • Ballet and Jazz Intensive Programs - a program for students with a passion for ballet and jazz
  • National Convention - a week long event filled with innovative study in many dance genres.
  • Examination Review - free classes to review the DMA manuals as a refresher or to prepare for exams.
  • Chapter sponsored conventions and workshops.

SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Scholarship auditions at the chapter and national level. Scholarships awarded annually to TTS, SHIP and Ballet Intensive. Regional Title Holders receive a scholarship to the National Convention.

DISCOUNTS

  • DMA members receive discounts from BMI, ASCAP, SESAC.

NETWORKING

  • Be a part of the DMA family. DMA is truly a fraternal organization. We are all teaching the same types of children with the same types of parents, encountering the same types of problems! It helps to discuss issues with members who are in the same boat!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • A minimum requirement of 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Read, understand and agree with the DMA Code of Ethics.
  • Must complete an application and mail along with an application fee of $25.00. First years dues of $150.00 will be due at time of installation.
  • You are required to take and pass an examination in at least 2 disciplines that you teach.
  • You may become a degreed member if you have a B.A. in Dance. No further testing is necessary. Must submit transcripts or copy of diploma with application.
  • You may become a partnered member if you are in good standing with the Dance Teachers Club of Boston. Must submit membership card with application.
  • Pay yearly dues. Active, Degree, & Partner Members = $150.00.   Past President, Honorary, & Associate Members = $90.00.    Application fee: $25.00

EXAMINATIONS

  • Applicants must pass the examination with a grade of 75% or higher.
  •  Applicants must take exams within 6 months of submitting their application.
  • Applicants who have been certified through Acrobatic Arts for Module 2 shall not be required to take the DMA Acro Exam.
  • Applicants who have passed the Cecchetti Teacher’s Elementary Examination (formerly known as Grade V) or the Royal Academy Elementary Examination, shall not be required to take the DMA Ballet Examination.
  • Applicants who have passed the DMA Teachers Training School examination may become members without further examination in those subjects of dance.
  • Once your application has been processed, you will be notified of exam dates, times and locations.
  • Exams are by appointment only. Each applicant should come prepared with dance attire and appropriate shoes for the subject being taken. You will be provided with a pass/fail grade on the day of the exam.
  • Study forums are offered to assist you in preparing for your exams. These are very beneficial and are strongly recommended.
  • Once you have taken your examination(s), you will be “installed” into the organization at the next Board or Grand Body meeting. At this point you will enjoy all the benefits of membership
